Apple is reportedly facing further delays in the launch of its electric vehicle, now pushing the release date to 2028 at the earliest. This setback follows the previous postponement from the initial 2026 target. Apple is said to be simplifying the vehicle's design and scaling back on its ambitious plans, which originally included a fully autonomous vehicle without pedals or a steering wheel.
The electric car will now incorporate a "Level 2+" system, offering features like autonomous lane centering and adaptive cruise control simultaneously, but falling short of the previously envisioned Level 4 autonomy. These adjustments were purportedly made after meetings involving Apple's board, CEO Tim Cook, and project head Kevin Lynch in response to persistent inquiries about the project's progress throughout 2023.
Despite being in development since 2014 under the codename Titan, specific details about the car's name, specifications, and development have remained largely undisclosed over the past decade.
