Jordan Brand's Wings Initiative Honors NYC MTA Workers with Special Air Jordan 1 Mid 'Subway'

Updated: May 18

Jordan Brand's Wings initiative has once again taken flight, this time with a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes who keep New York City moving: the MTA workers. Enlisting the creative talents of 138 local NYC students, the initiative set out to design a sneaker that pays homage to these essential workers, resulting in the Air Jordan 1 Mid "Subway."

Students from cities across the nation, including New York, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, and Philadelphia, collaborated on the design process, presenting their ideas to the Jordan team. The result is a striking two-toned gray silhouette adorned with intricate details inspired by the city's iconic subway system.

AIR JORDAN 1 MID WINGS “NYC SUBWAY”

The Air Jordan 1 Mid "Subway" is not just a stylish sneaker; it's also designed for functionality. Constructed with waterproof materials, it ensures durability and protection against the elements. The reflective Swoosh in the middle adds a touch of visibility and flair, while the speckled outsole and sock lining provide both style and comfort.

But it's the thoughtful details that truly set this sneaker apart. On the tongue, the words "Thank You For All You Do" serve as a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the MTA workers who tirelessly keep the city running. Meanwhile, phrases like "Always Go Forward" on the toe and "Do Not Lean On The Doors" on the quarter pay homage to the daily routines and safety reminders of subway travel.

To further honor the MTA workers, the back of the heel features the word "WINGS" in the distinctive MTA lettering, symbolizing the spirit of perseverance and progress embodied by both the workers and the Jordan Brand's Wings initiative.

The Air Jordan 1 Mid "Subway" is more than just a sneaker; it's a symbol of appreciation, collaboration, and community. Through this innovative project, Jordan Brand continues to showcase its commitment to empowering young creatives and celebrating the everyday heroes who make a difference in our cities.
